Earth Day 2025

Happy Earth Day!! 🥰🌱🌳🌎

Possibly an odd topic for Earth Day…but it seems this is the time of the great egg hunt…😜🤣 With pasture-raised organic eggs, and also eggs of other standards, being hard to come by! (Sending all sustainable practicing farmers and their chickens my love during this hardship! ❤️)

This brings up a topic I am super passionate about though— it matters where your food comes from! It matters what the animals are being fed, how they are raised, treated, and the environment they live in. This all determines the health and taste of the product!

What goes into their body goes into YOUR body, even if it’s eggs! Their environment affects everything, from the nutrients, to the tenderness of the meat, and of course the taste of the eggs/meat/dairy. If they are living in their natural environment, such as being pasture raised, they are happier and healthier because they are able to eat and live how nature intended, which gives a better tasting and HEALTHIER product.

So we’ll take chickens for example, organic, pasture raised chicken tastes COMPLETELY different, and has a different texture as well, compared to chicken that comes from “conventional farms” (farms with no animal welfare standards 😢). The meat is much more tender! And their eggs…you can taste, and see the difference in the yolk! The yolk will be a darker orange color thanks to the bugs they are eating on the pesticide-free grass they are meant to forage on! 🥰🐛🐞🧡

And my biggest pet peeve…and I apologize now if I offend anyone….the feed the chickens are being fed MATTERS! If they are being fed a feed that has corn, soy, wheat, and it doesn’t say Non-GMO…ALL of those crops are sprayed in Glyphosate (a PROVEN cancer causing pesticide). So, guess what’s going to be in your eggs?!?!

Even if they are raised at someone’s house, if they are feeding their chickens a non-organic feed, it could have GMO’s, and even if it says Non-GMO, it still is feed that contains pesticides. So that means your eggs are not organic or very healthy for you, I am sorry to say. And some home chicken owners don’t let their chickens roam freely on grass…most don’t actually from what I’ve seen, so they are not eating the grass or many bugs to make the chickens or their eggs healthy. 😕 However, if they don’t free range on grass, they could still be supplemented with the proper nutrients that make up for that, including the feed that they are fed, if it’s organic.

This is important: If you are buying eggs from someone who has chickens at their house, always ask what they are being fed! If they aren’t being fed organic feed, I don’t recommend you buy them. And even if it’s Non-GMO, “natural” feed, that’s marketing- and the feed could still have pesticides and have ingredients that are unhealthy for the chickens, which produces an unhealthy egg. 😟

Side note real quick, I am just here to educate, not judge!! ❤️ If you are reading this and you are doing any of what I mentioned, it’s ok! You probably didn’t know! 😉 And it’s an easy fix to at least change the feed!! ☺️💕 We learn, and we can unlearn, evolve, and grow!

Point being, please help support our earth and farmers that are using sustainable practices. Buy your eggs, meat, and dairy from brands and companies that care about the animals and the earth! The labels you want to see are: Organic, Regenerative, Certified Humane, Pasture Raised. I honestly really love New Barn eggs, they are my favorite, and Whole Foods has them!

The labels to ignore that are just for marketing: Cage-Free, Free-Range, Natural, and even if they are Non-GMO, they still can have pesticides, sadly…another trick, unfortunately. If you buy organic they are already Non-GMO at least, so organic is the most important label to look for. Organic farmers usually have better animal welfare practices in place.

Some places that I like to buy from are Butcher Box, Thrive Market, and Whole Foods. And if you’re local to the North West FL Panhandle, Ever’man’s is a great natural grocery store!

One thing we can do to support the Earth is to buy pasture raised organic eggs, meat, and diary products! I know they can be pricey (depending on where you buy), but the more of us who buy them, the more the prices will go down! It’s a group effort!! We have to vote with our dollars and help to phase out conventional farming for the sake of the animals and our gorgeous planet!! 🌎💚

Let us remember, everything is connected. 💫🌀
